What is your purpose?
I just finished reading The Art of Happiness , A Handbook for Living, 10th Anniversary edition by his holiness the Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler.
I enjoy the conundrum that is our very existence. Most of us just go through our day to day lives just “living.” But why are we here? What is our purpose? This book answers these questions in a very simple and pragmatic way… we are here to pursue happiness. Focus on happiness and compassion for others and realize the scientifically proven health benefits that follow. Along the way you will get insight on how to deal with anxiety, anger, and insecurity. This book is for everyone regardless of religious beliefs and is not trying to teach you Buddhism although it is naturally discussed since the meat of the book is conversations with the Dalai Lama.
I myself have always been a fan of Buddhism and try to loosely align myself with its teachings. Back in 2004, I had the pleasure to attend a seminar with the Dalai Lama at University of California Irvine. To this day I remember the profound feeling I had in the presence of the Dalai Lama. It was a feeling of happiness.
